PMBIA

The original PMBI Courses began in 2006, and were created to provide the industry with an increased quality of training for mountain bike Instructors, by promoting a Skill-based teaching method; allowing Instructors to be trained and certified to teach in both cross country and downhill settings, through one course. Skill-based teaching had been proven in the ski and snowboard Instructor industries for over fifty years.

In establishing the PMBI Association, the team was very careful not to “reinvent” the wheel. The PMBI Certifications from ZEP and the MBIT Certifications from Endless Biking already shared many core concepts and methodologies and were very successful, just with slight differences in their presentation. Having been proven, tested and developed over the past decade, the PMBI & MBIT comprised of approximately 80% of all Instructor courses in North America, and the PMBI Courses alone were responsible for about 80% of all Instructor courses in Australia & New Zealand.

By using the PMBI courses as the backbone and merging with the MBIT Courses, the PMBIA Team essentially molded the best parts of each program into one; creating one, stronger course, that current PMBI and MBIT Instructors would still easily recognize, while refining the delivery of the PMBIA’s methodology for Instructors & Guides who have not previously trained with PMBI or MBIT. A simple, free online update e-Workshop is all that’s needed for current PMBI and MBIT Certified Instructors to become “PMBIA Certified”.

Nearly ten years in the making, the PMBI Association represents a huge step forward for both the mountain bike industry as a whole, as well as the mountain bike teaching and guiding industry. The PMBI Association is what the industry has been asking for and what the Directors of the PMBIA have been working tirelessly for, through years of dedication and hard work to the sport’s growth. We could not be happier to be moving forward with the PMBIA, united as one.

The PMBIA is not a closed group and looks forward to continue working with other Instructor Training Providers. There have been many hours of consultation with other instructors & companies all over the globe, who offer training. We certainly hope that the PMBIA can grow to encompass all of our needs and goals as an industry. The PMBIA established a diverse Board of Directors and Advisory Board and will continue to promote open forums to include any new ideas and discussions into the fold of the PMBIA, so that we can all grow together.
